I’m that teenage girl who has MS. You haven’t met me, but you’ve seen me around. You probably know my sister. We’re twins, and she’s the pretty one. Maybe you’ve heard about my reputation, how much I like to hook up at parties—how easy it is to get me in bed, get what you want, and forget about me after. Forget what you think you know. I’m leaving that girl behind. College is all about new beginnings. So from now on—I’m just Cass. And the rest…it isn’t written yet. And no one else gets to write my story for me.

“Tyson Preeter doesn’t do can’t.” That’s exactly what I want people to think when they see me. I am strong, invincible, confident, intelligent—arrogant. I’m the man who always finds a way around, over and through—until there’s nothing left. Since losing my ability to walk six years ago, I’ve relearned life. I don’t need sympathy. I don’t want charity. And I don’t do love. It’s better this way, saves my disappointments for me, and me alone, and it saves my strength for everything I want. But Cass Owens is about to wreck everything. She’s about to steal all of my strength away from me, because she needs it more. She’s about to break all of my rules, and break down all of my walls. She’s about to own me…completely. And I’m about to let her.
Thank you to the author and Wordsworth Publicity for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Ginger Scott never fails to amaze me with her realistic and emotional contemporary novels that have outstanding character development and an exploration of themes outside of the romance. In this sequel to This is Falling which can also be read as a standalone since it focuses on different characters, I found myself completely immersed in the story, the characters and felt like I was right there with them through the good times and the bad.

That was the old Cass. This Cass? She loves herself, or at least she's working on it. She is more than her MS.

Cass is a character that in some ways exemplifies the insecurities that we all hold within ourselves because we aren't perfect. What I admired about her was her willingness to fight against the odds and follow her dream of playing soccer despite her MS which she could have let define her. Her developing relationship with Ty not only helped her come out of her shell, but he was the supportive, loving and caring boyfriend that any girl would be lucky to have. He too was able to put the past behind him and open his heart for a true love which Cass could give him.

I love her for everything she is, and I love her for how much she makes me believe in the possible. She's defiance, in all of its glory.

Cass's determination is one of her defining characteristics, but aside from that her family is also another dynamic we get a glimpse into. This book isn't just your typical NA romance, it has much more substance than that. The sibling relationships especially between Nate/Tyson and Cass/Paige vary from the banter you would expect, to deeper issues which come to the surface. Paige especially was someone who ended up being more complex that you may have at first thought, and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of her story in the next book. In some NA novels the parents don't even come into the picture, but in this one they are involved and make a difference in the story.

Tyson Preeter is my boyfriend - a real boyfriend, the kind that takes me on dates and leaves me love notes. The kind I wished for - the kind I promised myself I would have. The kind who loves me. The kind who made me love me too. And I love him for that most of all.

Tyson and Cass really are the perfect match - and he seems like a guy who ticks all the right boxes: good looking, fantastic personality and intelligence all mixed into one. Most importantly though? He's a genuinely good guy, not the stereotypical 'bad boy' who all the girls fall for - and we need more of them in this genre. Of course their relationship isn't all smooth-sailing, but sometimes that's what makes it all the more real.

"I had a great love, and then I had a great tragedy", he says. "That love, it put me right again, sent me on my way to where I am now. To you. And as far as I'm concerned, from now on, there is just you - and everything after."

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you like NA, or even if you're a little but skeptical - I'd still recommend You and Everything After. It's emotional, well written and might just bring a tear to your eye. This is the contemporary novel that I can see myself re-reading in the future just to experience the rollercoaster of feelings all over again.
